Read the Old Testament in One Year
practicing discipleship together
Discipleship is at the core of Calvary's mission. Martin Luther understood discipleship to be our daily response to our baptism, that is the new life and grace we receive from God through Jesus. One way to respond to the gift of baptism is to hear the word of God and read the Bible. Follow the daily reading plan then join one of the weekly Bible Study groups either Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 pm or on Sundays during Coffee Hour after church at 11:45 am.
Reading the Bible FAQs
Q: What if I haven’t read the Bible before?
A: That’s OK, let this year be the first! We will start in Genesis and follow a reading guide through all the books in the Bible.
Q: One year sounds ambitious. What if I can’t do all the reading?
A: Even if you can’t do all the readings, you are welcome to still attend either of the Bible sessions and learn from one another. Also, consider downloading an audio Bible app to listen on the go.
Q: I’d love to participate, but I can’t make either study time.
A: You can still do the readings and touch base with others who are reading on Sunday after worship.
Q: I can’t find my Bible/I don’t like my Bible.
A: This is a great time to invest in a new Bible and find something you really like. Pastor Jenny prefers the Lutheran Study Bible for the helpful introductions to each book, but any Bible, any translation will be just fine. So long as you will pick it up and read it!
